In Don Carter's saddle school, students will be provided
with the elementary foundation of stamping and tooling.
The student will build two saddles over an eight week
course. The first saddle that the student makes, he/she
will get to keep while the second is retained by Dixon
Saddlery. Basic tools and patterns for the saddles are
provided.

The student will be required to attend course five days a
week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Course Information

Week 1
Students will gain knowledge of pattern making.
Famaliarizing themselves with the hand tool and other shop equipment.


Week 2
Students will work on the gullet cover, ground seat, cover horn, and fork cover.

Week 3
Students will work on the skirts, fenders, and seat.

Week 4
Students will work on the back billets, back cinch,
back jockeys, cover stirrups, and all the other finishing touches.


Week 5 - 8
Students will start on their second saddle, and repeat the process.

Student progress may vary. A notebook and camera are the only necessary equipment for class.

with assistance from Don Carter.
Students get to take home
one set of chaps or chinks.
